Fall Points Chase

About

By popular demand, the Fall Point Series has been extended another three weeks!

With the popularity of the Virtual Summer Sizzler Weekly Race Series, the Greater Springfield Harriers running club has decided to create a new series of eight virtual races starting the first weekend of September and ending on the fourth weekend of October.

This virtual race series will remain with no registration required and free to all.

Info

The Fall Point Chase is a series of eight eleven virtual races using our Snowstorm Classic 5K as the designated course that participants run anytime on Friday, Saturday or Sunday each week. Runners submit their times to no later than Sunday and results will be posted to this website each Monday.

Weekly results will be scored using WAVA/USATF age-grading with a point tally based on age-graded time that cumulates over the eight-week series. Overall results will also be posted along with the age-grading scoring.

Information about age grading scoring can be found here for those unfamilar with it.

Runners should stay to the right of the granite stones at the end of Washington St when crossing over the grass and turning left onto Magawiska Road that leads back into Forest Park.

Snowstorm 5K Road Course Map

Although this series is using the Snowstorm Classic 5k course, times will not count towards that series's results & age record history.
Any times run during these ideal fall weather conditions provide a significant advantage to age records run during the harsher winter months of the Snowstorm Classic. This is a new series created because of the popularity of the COVID-19 Virtual Summer Sizzlers. We will preserve these weekly results and if we bring back the Fall Chase series next year, we will revisit starting new FallChase age records using this year results as a starting point.

Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is this virtual race series? Will there be race volunteers, course marshalls or any race support such as water or other aid?

There can be no races as we normally know them at this time. The club can not host any public mass start event under current state guidelines for public gatherings. But for anyone that chooses to run the designated 5K course on your own, we will compile the submitted results and post them. We are doing this at no charge as means to serve the running community and support a safe, healthy competetive option for runners of all abilities.

Do I have to be a Greater Springfield Harrier to partipate?

No. Anyone can run.

Can I run just one or just a couple of the weeks?

Yes. Run one or as many weeks as you like. There is a series long cummulative point scoring that rewards participation, but there is no minimum required particpation.

Do times run on the 5K course count towards the official Snowstorm Classic Age Records?

No. Any times run during these ideal fall weather conditions provide a significant advantage to age records run during the harsher winter months. This is a new series created because of the popularity of the COVID-19 Virtual Summer Sizzlers. We will preserve the weekly results and if we bring back the series next year, we will revisit starting age records using this year results as a starting point.
