Carol L’Esperance and Elaine Dill Set Age Records
Spencer Beaver Returns to the Winners Circle
On a warm and humid Summer Sizzler
evening two Harriers managed to set age records while EORC’s Spencer
Beaver won his third cross country race this season.
Long time club
member Carol L’Esperance lowered the record for 60 year old women
for the fourth time, clipping 14 seconds off her time of two weeks
ago to finish in 26:36. In the process she swept all the women’s
divisions, open, masters, seniors and veterans, while gaining her 21st
lifetime Summer Sizzler victory. The talented speedster is ranked 7th
in the Summer Sizzler Hall of Fame and continues to hold the course
record of 19:26 she set in 1981. New club member Elaine Dill also
set an age record, erasing the 33:23 standard for 61 year old women
set by Penelope Chatterton of the Sugarloaf Mountain Athletic Club
on August 1, 2001. Elaine added her name to the GSH record books by
striding over the hills and valleys of the 5K Forest Park course in
32:15. She was third among the women in the race with Jillian
Desrosiers placing second in 28:16.
Spencer needed his
fastest time of the season to garner his win, zipping over the five
thousand challenging meters in 21:13 to hold off a pair of quick
fifteen year old high school students. He now has five lifetime
Summer Sizzler crowns and is moving up the Hall of Fame rankings.
Jacob Mueller was a close second in 21:20 while Cameron Cook was 3rd
in 21:34. Harrier Doug Bielefeld took home master and senior honors
in 24:56.
