Junior Tom Bousquet bolted to a sizable early lead but Harrier Randy Welner steadily closed the gap, caught the fading teenager by midway of the race, then built a comfortable lead to finish in 17:31 to Bousquet’s 17:46. Celio Hernandez continued his come back from injuries with a solid third place finish in 18:02. Harrier women again swept the first three spots as Kristine Ross (20:21) just edged Heather Wenninger (20:22) followed by Kathy Colwell (20:49). Heather’s time set a new record for 15 year olds breaking the 21:01 standard set by GSH’s Tessa Simmons over ten years ago. CMS’s Mary Ryczek ran 21:12 to break the record for 52 year old women of 22:52 set by Sugarloaf’s Cindy Dalrymple in 1995. Not to be outdone, GSH’s own Doug Blanchard ran an impressive 23:16 to establish another standard, his eleventh consecutive age record on the 5K course, covering ages 63 to 73 inclusive.
